Questions & answers about the Pelikan electric cargo bike

Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about technology, carrying children, delivery and service.

Product & technology

What is the Pelikan electric cargo bike?

The Pelikan is an electric cargo bike (pedelec) built for families and everyday city life. Your child rides safely buckled up in the large front box, or you carry groceries and luggage. It has a 250 W rear hub motor and a 48 V / 20 Ah battery. You order online and have it delivered or pick it up in Vienna.

How far can I ride on one battery charge?

100–120 km under standard conditions. The battery has 48 V / 20 Ah, roughly 960 Wh. The actual range depends on the assistance level, load, terrain and temperature.

How do I charge the battery, and how long does it take?

The battery is removable. Simply take it inside and charge it from a regular power socket – you don't need a parking space with a socket. A full charge takes about 4–6 hours.

How fast does the Pelikan go?

The motor assists you while pedalling up to 25 km/h. Above that, you ride on your own pedal power.

How much can I carry?

Up to 75 kg in the cargo basket and up to 27.5 kg on the rear rack. The maximum total weight (rider, bike and load) is approx. 220 kg. The foldable aluminium cargo basket measures 50 × 40 cm.

How big and how heavy is the Pelikan?

The Pelikan measures 205 × 65 × 120 cm (length × width × height) and weighs 35 kg. At 65 cm wide, it fits through standard doors and bike rooms. The cargo basket can be folded.

What rider height is the Pelikan suitable for?

For riders from 150 cm to 200 cm. The saddle height is adjustable.

Which colours are available?

Black and orange, both at the same price.

Children, pets & safety

Can I take my child with me on the Pelikan?

Yes. The front box is fitted with a child seat and safety belt, both included. The box and child seat are tested and approved for transporting children. Please note: in Austria, children up to 12 must wear a helmet when carried on a bicycle, and the rider must be at least 16 years old.

Up to what age can my child ride along?

The child seat is suitable for children up to about 5–6 years. The maximum cargo basket load of 75 kg must not be exceeded.

Can I take my dog or another pet with me?

Yes. The front box is also suitable for dogs and other pets, with a load of up to 75 kg. Make sure your pet sits securely and can't jump out while riding, for example with a short harness strap. A blanket in the basket adds extra comfort.

Does the rain canopy protect my child in bad weather?

Yes. The rain canopy is included, protects against rain and wind, and has transparent windows so your child can see out.

Purchase, delivery & pickup

How much does the Pelikan cost, and what's included?

The Pelikan costs €4,290 incl. VAT. The child seat, rain canopy and rear rack are already included in the price.

Where do you deliver, and what does shipping cost?

We deliver throughout Austria; further EU countries are planned. Delivery takes 3–5 working days and shipping costs €160 per bike. Pickup in Vienna is free.

Can I pick up the bike myself?

Yes, pickup in Vienna is free. Simply choose “Pickup” at checkout, where you'll also see the pickup address.

How can I pay?

You pay securely through our checkout, for example by credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. All available payment methods are shown at checkout.

Is there a subsidy for electric cargo bikes?

In Austria, subsidies for electric cargo bikes are offered from time to time by the federal government, the provinces or municipalities, but they change frequently. With a 75 kg basket payload, the Pelikan meets the usual requirements for electric cargo bikes. You can find the current status at the federal environmental funding agency (Umweltförderung) and your province or municipality.

Assembly, service & warranty

Do I have to assemble the bike myself?

Just a few simple steps: insert the front wheel and mount the handlebar. It only takes a few minutes, and instructions are included. Alternatively, our partner dealers can assemble the bike professionally and hand it over with a briefing. The dealer charges the assembly costs directly.

Where can I get service and repairs?

At our partner dealers, currently Bentho eBikes in Vienna and Brunn am Gebirge. Because the Pelikan uses branded components such as Shimano and Tektro, any bike workshop can also service the brakes and gears.

What warranty do I get?

The statutory 2-year warranty applies. You'll find the warranty terms in the manual for your Pelikan.

Can I return the bike?

As a consumer, you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal. Returns are only possible in accordance with our return conditions. You'll find all details under Right of withdrawal.

Legal & everyday use

Do I need a licence, insurance or a number plate?

No. In Austria, a pedelec with a maximum continuous power of 250 W and motor assistance up to 25 km/h is legally a bicycle. We still recommend liability insurance, which is often already included in household insurance.

Can I ride in the rain and in winter?

Yes. The hydraulic disc brakes work reliably in the wet, and the rain canopy protects your child. In freezing temperatures, store and charge the battery indoors – this protects it and preserves the range.

For dealers

I'm a bike dealer. Can I sell the Pelikan?

Yes, we're looking for partner dealers. You can submit a request via Become a dealer. Once approved, you order through your dealer account at dealer conditions.
